Rendering a paper with mathematical notation in HTML is unfortunately still problematic. I recommend that you use a newer browser such as Internet Explorer 5.5 or Netscape 6 to view this paper. For example, Netscape 4.7 does not understand many character entity codes and so will not display Greek characters or mathematical symbols correctly. (For example: α β ≈).
I also recommend downloading and installing the free web font collection from MS Typography. These fonts give the best possible on-screen display. For example, this document is mainly laid out in Verdana. However, it will be perfectly legible without these extra fonts.
This paper includes a Java applet (the SimTrap Applet). To view this you will obviously need to use a browser with Java support. Again a recent browser version is recommended.
This paper includes a number of videos. Where possible they have been included
in both animated GIF (best for inline display) and AVI (best for downloading)
formats. However, for some of the larger formats AVI format only is given, due
to the more manageable size. To ensure rapid loading of pages, the animated
GIFs do not display automatically. Rather, playback can be started ()
or stopped (
) by clicking on the
appropriate icons. The AVI versions can be downloaded by clicking on this icon:

As far as possible, we have avoided links to external sites within the main
text, preferring to include them in the bibliography
instead. Where we have felt it useful to include them, they are indicated with
this symbol: .
Entries in the bibliography are given the following
symbols:
for a web site
for a paper
for a book.
Where possible we have linked to online versions of printed publications, or at least to journals' home pages. Obviously access will in some cases require either personal or institutional subscriptions.
With a few exceptions, we have not specified equipment manufacturers in the text. However, most of the relevant manufacturers will be found on our home page under “Companies”.
Every page of this document has navigation bars at the top and bottom. Both
bars have navigation arrows which will take the reader to the next ()
or the previous (
)
page. The top bar additionally has a link to the table of
contents and the EBJ home page.
